Kara (Houck) McCaffrey is the part-owner and Chief Wellness Officer at Houck Group of Companies based in Harrisburg, PA and she resides in Madison, WI. She holds a BS in Math from Penn State, an MBA from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and is currently pursuing a master’s in Health and Wellness Management at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay. A dedicated advocate for mental health and wellness, Kara is a certified mental health first aider, Vital Cog instructor, and a compelling public speaker on these crucial topics. Her commitment is deeply personal, rooted in the loss of her brother, Gary, to suicide in 2005. With a diverse background in the construction industry and over a decade in healthcare IT, focusing on education and suicide prevention in medical software, Kara returned to her family company with a mission to effect positive change, save lives, and contribute to advancements in the construction industry. Actively engaged in mental health initiatives, she serves on several regional task forces (such as the Suicide Prevention and Harm Reduction Coalition of Dane County) and national committees (such as Construction Suicide Prevention Week). Kara brings a wealth of experience and a genuine passion to her role, aiming to make a lasting impact on well-being in both professional and personal spheres.
