Meet Our Peer Providers
There for you on your journey
meet our peer providers
Our peer providers bring lived experience and deep understanding to their work. Some have personal experience navigating substance use or mental health experiences, and others have been closely connected to loved ones with similar experiences. This perspective allows peers to meet people with empathy, respect, and without assumptions about goals or outcomes.
All peer providers receive specialized training through the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) and/or are credentialed as Wisconsin Certified Peer Support Specialists, ensuring they are equipped to support individuals across a range of self-defined goals, including harm reduction, stability, and recovery.
Tanya Kraege
I have worked for Safe Communities MDC, serving our community since 2017. This has by far been the employment that resonates with my favorite version of me.
I am so humbled and grateful to have met every person on their journey to wellness and work alongside partners whose interests align with those of creating well communities.
My hobbies are hanging with my kiddos, partner and family, reading books, playing volleyball and singing off key to music (all the time).
Kristina Vaccaro
I have been part of Safe Communities since 2017 and am proud to support the organization through an operations-focused role that helps ensure programs run effectively, sustainably, and in alignment with our values. My background is rooted in community-based work, and I am committed to building and maintaining systems, processes, and infrastructure that allow staff to focus on what matters most: supporting people in ways that honor their individual goals and choices.
Outside of my role at Safe Communities, I enjoy staying actively involved in the community through board service, community work groups, and other opportunities to contribute to local initiatives. I’m also a social person who enjoys spending time with friends, as well as quieter moments reading books, working on puzzles, and snuggling my dog. Time with my husband and kids is especially important to me and keeps me grounded and connected
Davita Walker
DaVita Walker serves as the Program Coordinator for Peer Services for Safe Communities. She has been a team member of Safe Communities since 2019. A proud member of the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians, DaVita brings a deep sense of cultural connection and advocacy to her work. She currently facilitates The Healing Circle, a dedicated support group focused on recovery and communal wellness.
DaVita holds an Associate’s degree in Human Services and a certification in Addiction Studies. She is a staunch advocate for harm reduction and outreach, rooted in the core philosophy of meeting every individual exactly where they are. Her work is driven by a passion for creating accessible, compassionate pathways to healing for all community members.
Andrea Everett
I’m a proud Drug Court graduate and a person in long-term recovery who has dedicated the past four years to serving with Safe Communities. My lived experience has given me a deep passion for walking alongside others as they navigate recovery, healing, and personal growth.
One of the most meaningful parts of my work is supporting and mentoring our coaches as they do the hard, life-changing work within our community. I love helping coaches learn how to show up authentically, lead with compassion, and provide trauma-informed, person-centered support that honors each individual’s journey. Being able to serve both our team and the folx we work alongside is something I carry with great purpose and gratitude every day.
Outside of my professional role, I am a proud mom to five beautiful children and five CUTE fur-babies who keep life full, busy, and joyful. Recovery has given me the opportunity to build a life grounded in connection, service, and hope, and I’m honored to use my story to encourage others that healing and change are possible.
Rebecca Foss
My name is Rebecca, and I am a person in long-term recovery.
I am a Certified Peer Support Specialist and work with people who struggle with substance use and mental health challenges to assist in making changes in their lives.
I have a passion for working with pregnant women and their babies, guiding them in their recovery process to experience better outcomes for both mom and baby. Grateful to be a part of the Safe Communities recovery coach team.
Dexter Lane
I joined Safe Communities in 2017 as a Coalition Builder and Peer Support Specialist and have been fortunate to grow alongside the organization ever since. While my role has changed over the years, my passion for supporting both our staff and participants has remained the same.
In 2019, Safe Communities launched Rex, our data platform designed specifically for community-based organizations. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of leading its continued development, administration, and staff training. Although I sometimes miss working directly with participants, I find purpose in building systems and providing training that help our peer providers spend more time doing what they do best – supporting people.
One of my favorite parts of my role is helping new staff gain confidence with technology. I believe everyone learns differently, and I strive to create a patient, supportive, and individualized training experience that meets people where they are. Watching someone who was once intimidated by technology leave training feeling confident is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
Outside of Safe Communities, I am a proud transmasculine man and have been in recovery since 2015. Those experiences continue to shape both my personal values and my approach to supporting others. In my free time, you’ll usually find me playing hockey, traveling, crafting, attending concerts, helping friends, or spending time with my wonderful family. I believe every person has the capacity to love, to heal, to repair, and to grow, and that we all share a responsibility to recognize the impact we have on one another and to leave our communities a little better than we found them.
